Growth charts

At her 2 month checkup, Monster Hands came in at just under the 5th percentile for weight-for-age. It was a big deal because she was so small at birth and immediately thereafter that they worried that she wasn’t eating enough. This week, at her 4 month checkup, she came in at the 11th percentile for weight. (This is all according to a WHO standard chart.)

The doctor joked that she was now bigger than I was, percentile-wise.

That made me curious about whether anyone actually had bothered to gather weight-for-age percentile data for adults and whether she actually had surpassed me. Guess what? The CDC has gathered it (for the US, not the world) and she HAS surpassed me! She and I had very similar weight and height for age percentiles when she was 2 months old and she’s ahead now. I’m not sure what we’re racing for or what it means to win, and I still think the lesson is that healthy humans come in all sizes, but this is sort of entertaining.

She’s mobile!

Yesterday, Monster Hands rolled over from her back to her front! Today, she is scooting around the floor on her back. She’s not four months old for another few days. How much trouble am I in?

Observed on a walk.

Today, 2:45 pm. In which Anne and Kehdrin gain two valuable pieces of information about the world while on a walk, although only one of them is awake. Fortunately.

One:

The bodega near our house sells actual MREs, with a military seal and everything. We did not partake.

Two:

Sometimes drunk people are friendly, and sometimes they are so drunk that they don’t realize their only layer of pants is seriously malfunctioning. Sometimes drunk people with malfunctioning pants are very tall and suddenly list toward much shorter people, completely by accident, causing the much shorter people to become uncomfortably aware of the situation by virtue of reduced eye level.

Sometimes, it’s nice to come home.

Cannibalism

On our walk this morning, Monster  Hands and I met a nice lady from Tonga who greeted us like we were beloved old friends and nibbled the baby’s feet!

On a walk

Today, Monster Hands and I hiked over the hill and across the freeway, from our neighborhood to the one where Papa Bird was.

Along the way, we met a kindly Italian woman who complemented us both on being nice and beautiful people and gave us detailed instructions to her house, where we are invited for tea and free babysitting.

Oh, and if anyone knows an eligible bachelor who doesn’t drink or do drugs and might be interested in meeting a septegenarian Grandmother raised in Napoli, I have her phone number and a request to call with any references.

This time, no one nibbled on the baby’s feet. She worries about germs and babies. She did kiss me on the cheek, though.

And she complimented me on being so tall, which, comparatively, I was.
